Both are different in many ways-
- Kohli is gaining experience but Dhoni is experienced.
- Kohli is aggresive whereas Dhoni is calm.
- Kohli likes to try different things but Dhoni plays with same combinations.
- Kohli likes to play with 5 different bowlers but Dhoni prefer all-rounders to maintain the balance.
Major difference is their expressiveness and reactions. By looking at Kohli you can guess the exact situation of match without looking at the scoreboard.
As a player you would be afraid to make mistakes under Kohli. Under Dhoni, a player knows that the captain places his trust in him but will not say anything on the field if he fails.
Kohli when team wins:

Kohli when team loses

Dhoni when team wins:

(Whenever India wins he takes a stump.)
Dhoni when team loses:

This post neither disrespects Dhoni nor Kohli in any way. Both have made India proud many a times. But both are different personalities as individuals and as captains and that influences the team differently. We cannot say that one is better than the other. Kohli hasn’t even been captain long enough.
