ICC on David-De Kock incident: Warner banned for one test

Altercation between Australian opening batsmen David Warner and South African wicket batsmen Quinton de Kock on their way to the dressing rooms on Day 4 of the Durban Test, the International Cricket Council charged both players on Tuesday for breaching the governing body's code of conduct. While Warner was charged with a Level 2 offense, that could lead to a one-Test ban, de Kock has been charged with the less severe one of Level 1, the maximum output of which will be a fine.

Australia and South Africa have time until March 7 to respond to the levied charges. CCTV footage, published by South African outlet Independent Media, showed Warner and de Kock engaging in a verbal stoush as players made their way to the dressing rooms at tea. Warner had to be restrained by teammate Usman Khawaja and then dragged away by captain Steve Smith after he did not relent on his barbs at de Kock. South Africa captain Faf du Plessis, and other members of the team became involved before Warner was escorted away.

Warner's behaviour was already under the microscope after he sledged opener Aiden Markram in the aftermath of AB de Villiers's run-out. The Australian offspinner, Nathan Lyon was fined 15 percent of his match fee and handed one demerit point after dropping the ball next to the dismissed batsman, who was sprawled on the ground. According to a Cricket Australia spokesperson, Lyon apologized to de Villiers and conveyed to him that there was no malice intended.

Australian women cricket team won the first ODI of three-match series against India by eight wickets at Reliance Stadium, Vadodara, on Monday. Opting to bat first, India’s opening batting order collapsed and Pooja Vastrakar scored the maiden half-century of her ODI career, thus becoming the first Indian woman player to hit a fifty at number nine. After winning the toss, stand-in skipper Harmanpreet Kaur opted to bat and the decision backfired as Indian team lost half of their batters even before reaching the 100-run mark. However, India’s lower batting order stabilised the innings, but that was too late. Bowler Pooja Vastrakar, along with wicket-keeper batswoman Sushma Verma, put a 76-run partnership for the eighth wicket. Vastrakar scored the maiden half-century of her ODI career and in her 51-run knock, she hit one six and seven boundaries. Other than Vastrakar, Sushma Verma (41) and Punam Raut (37) were the only Indian batters who were able to tackle the Australi...
